Dwayne Bowe has solid preseason outing; fantasy value still iffy after down year

Dwayne Bowe has been struggling in camp, but he had a solid outing in preseason action on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe struggled last season, has not had a good training camp by all reports and probably has the least amount of fan confidence of his storied career. But Bowe, who is entering his eighth year in the NFL, looked solid in Sunday’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.

In limited playing time, Bowe caught five of the six passes thrown his way for 62 yards, with a long of 21 yards. He didn’t find the end zone, but he looked fast and his hands were solid. Bowe has been one of the best receivers in the league at times, but there have been concerns about his durability and concerns that he’s simply on the decline. One preseason game won’t eliminate those perceptions, but it helps.

Fantasy Impact: Bowe is not a WR1 anymore, or at least he shouldn’t be considered one until he proves otherwise. He had 1,159 yards in 2011 and 1,162 yards in 2010. Between those two seasons he had 20 touchdowns, but posted a yardage total of just 673 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games last season.
